Diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic 28 years ago, the disease progressed…

Diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic 28 years ago, the disease progressed with the addition of stronger tablets and HRT drugs as time went on. As is usual, the medication cures nothing; it only manages your disease. I had the usual problems with statins and noticed a deterioration in my quality of life. To compound the issue, I was diagnosed with Essential Tremor and later prostate issues. I then suffered a heart attack 3 years ago. I ended up on 14 tablets per day. Of course they all had side effects which add up. ⅔ of the tablets had headache listed as a side effect, so I had a headache most days. I also had a nosebleed whenever I blew my nose. The outcome of all the medications was that I felt sluggish, tired and listless with constant fatigue. I found it impossible to connect to my environment and I lacked enthusiasm. I came to the realisation that my life was unsatisfactory and I should take control. I decided to reduce my reliance on managed decline and to seek natural supplements to control my symptoms. One of the members of one of the choirs I sing in told me that he had tremor and recommended Sally Varley Acupuncture as it had helped him. I had tried acupuncture in the past with mixed results, but following the personal recommendation, I decided to try again as part of a programme of natural wellbeing. My blood pressure is now 117/72 without any medication (controlled via food supplements, aged garlic and capsaicin). I have not had a headache in over 3 months and last week I had my first nosebleed in 4 months. I feel "connected" to the world and look forward to each day and seek new experiences. I feel better and sleep better than in the last 15 years. I would not say that Sally has fixed me, but she has certainly supported my journey. She is very empathetic and supportive, and easy to talk to. She is very professional and a calming influence. She constantly seeks out new ways of treatment to support my improvement. She takes an interest in my journey. Her treatment cabin is very restful, situated in a gorgeous, peaceful garden, for an unhurried, mindful experience.

I found Sally when I was experiencing many different symptoms and finding it hard to find a path through them. Straight away acupuncture helped to bring me some peace of mind. Sally also supported me in continuing to seek answers as to why I was experiencing my symptoms. She provides a safe and open environment for holistic treatment. I believe the treatment I received has contributed significantly to me feeling well and free of many of the symptoms I was suffering

I have been going to Sally for about a year now.

I have been going to Sally for about a year now. I have noticed a positive and cumulative effect from the acupuncture sessions, and I consider it part of my wellbeing routine at this point. Sally is caring and listens well, and she tailors the session in response to what’s needed. I leave the sessions feeling relaxed and rejuvenated every time. I encourage anyone who hasn’t tried acupuncture to give it a go. Chances are you will love Sally’s sessions as much as I do!

(Following dietary changes after a Food Sensitivity Test) My 12yr old is no longer exhausted after a day at school and is able to get up each morning feeling refreshed and happy. Also, the nausea has stopped and I can’t remember the last time she had a headache

I’ve also had a food sensitivity test done with sally.

I’ve also had a food sensitivity test done with sally. I’ve cut out some of the things she’s suggested and my chronic eczema in my ear, to the point I would shed skin and bleed has completely gone!! So I’d like to confirm the food sensitivity test is also well worth it! I’m completely gobsmacked with my results so far and I’d highly recommend it!

Sally is welcoming and friendly, and from the moment I arrived, I felt truly listened to for the first time since sustaining my injury. After the first treatment, I felt immediate relief from the pain and an improved sense of well-being. My sleep, which had been only 3-4 hours a night, increased to 6-7 hours. I recommend Sally to anyone who is struggling with their health.

Absolutely love Sally and the work she does.

Absolutely love Sally and the work she does. I went to see if it would be possible to have any relief from my endometriosis symptoms and insomnia. After the first session I slept like a baby and was pain free for the first time in a long time. Couldn’t recommend Sally enough!

FAQs

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is just one modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which also includes herbal treatment, dietary and lifestyle guidance. One of the oldest known forms of medicine, dating back thousands of years, acupuncture has gained widespread global acceptance in the last century. It’s now sometimes practiced in more conventional settings such as allopathic clinics and hospitals. Occasionally it’s even offered through the NHS here in the UK. Treatment can be focused on alleviating pain, healing a physical injury, addressing more complex internal disease conditions, and/or supporting mental-emotional health. Not only is acupuncture virtually painless, it’s also a calming, safe and effective way to restore your health and well-being.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Not usually though sometimes you might feel a strong sensation when the needles are inserted. We use extremely thin (the thickness of a human hair), filiform (solid rather than hollow) needles. They feel very different (and far less painful!) than the larger, hollow, hypodermic needles you might have experienced if you’ve ever had a blood test or an injection. There are a wide range of conditions that we treat and techniques that we can use. A skilled acupuncturist treating certain conditions may choose a more intense technique - with your consent - if that will produce the desired therapeutic outcomes. We can also needle so that you barely feel it at all. I am right there with you throughout every treatment so if any needle is painful or uncomfortable after insertion, I can easily remove or adjust it for you. You are in control at all times!

How do I choose an acupuncturist?

As acupuncture becomes more popular, it’s especially important to find a practitioner who is well trained. I personally have completed a 3 year, full time Acupuncture programme which included 2490 hours of teaching and 678 hours of clinical training. I graduated in 2011 and have had a successful private practice ever since. I’m a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (AAC) which sits under the umbrella of the British Acupuncture Federation (BAF). In November 2021 the British Acupuncture Federation managed to upgrade Acupuncturists 100 places on the Office of National Statistics into the same category as other Healthcare professionals such as Osteopaths and Physiotherapists. Owing to my membership of the AAC, some clients will be able to reclaim some partial or full cost of treatments through their health insurance. Please ask me for more details. I have continued to further my training over the last 12 years and most recently have completed qualifications in Hand, Leg, Foot and Facial Lift massage. I also taught the fertility module for the College of Living Nutrition in 2021. Since you may want to research and try a few practitioners to find your perfect fit, I offer a free, no obligation 10-15 minute chat so that we can discuss your situation and decide together if you’d like to give acupuncture a go. Get in touch to book your free chat. I’d like to assure you when you work with me, you are in a safe, confidential space where I will use all my skills to help you heal and feel your best.

What kinds of conditions do you treat?

As an acupuncturist, I can address symptoms of acute and chronic conditions affecting your physical and emotional health. Examples include: acne and skin conditions, alcohol abuse disorder and other addictions, allergies, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, constipation, diabetes, endocrine and thyroid imbalances, high blood pressure, IBS, immune system support, insomnia, metabolic disorders, parasitic infections, peri-menopausal and menopausal syndrome, physical pain and injury, PMS and menstrual irregularities, fertility, stress and anxiety. I am also trained to deliver Facial Enhancement Acupuncture, a form of natural facelift, plus hand, leg, foot and facial lift massage.

What is a food sensitivity test?

It’s a simple finger-prick blood test that checks how your body reacts to common foods. The in-house Food Detective Test covers 59 foods with results back within about an hour, plus a health consultation while you wait. Wider lab-based Food Print panels are also available through me if you need a broader picture.

Who is food sensitivity testing suitable for?

It’s helpful if you have ongoing symptoms without a clear cause — bloating, gas, diarrhoea or constipation, headaches, skin rashes, fatigue, or low energy. Finger-prick samples are used; the youngest person I’ve tested was 7. If you’re unsure which test is best, contact me for a free short chat and we’ll talk it through.

Can I combine a food sensitivity test with acupuncture?

Yes. You can book a stand-alone Food Sensitivity Test (£130), or add the food test alongside a follow-up acupuncture treatment at the add-on rate (£105 for the test only — acupuncture fee separate). Many clients find the combination especially helpful for digestion, energy, skin, and inflammation.
